How to Tackle Airport Noise Pollution
Printed in Leicester Mercury, March 5 2004

It was encouraging to read that Edward Garnier MP wants to protect people against noise pollution from East Midlands Airport ("Airport row is raised in Parliament", Mercury February 26). But how consistent is his position?

Does he support Green MEP Caroline Lucas in her call for a ban on night flights? Does he agree with the Green Party that there should be no further expansion in airport capacity? Has he signed Early Day Motion 1688, calling on the Secretary of State for Transport not only to limit noise pollution from night flights but to develop "an aviation policy that accords with national air pollution, sustainability and climate change targets and pays its full external costs"?

Over to you, Mr Garnier.
