Klee's Seafarer

In dogtooth-patterned tunic and red tights,
our hero navigates the sable flood.
He spears the sawdust monsters of the night
until they dribble scarlet drops of blood.

But if he slips, there will not be a gleam:
his wounds will weep wet sawdust on the stream.
